We continue our exploration of hashtag#imageTo3D tools. The goal is to evaluate the current level of quality, geometric precision and overall readiness for technical and engineering use cases.

Previously, we tested Meshy.ai and their open-source InstantMesh. Now it's time to test Tripo3D.ai from Tripo AI and guess what? They’ve released TripoSR, an open-source model, so we were able to run the exact same benchmark as with Meshy.ai and InstantMesh.

So how does Tripo3D compare to Meshy.ai? Long story short: for engineering, mechanical, or manufacturing use cases, Tripo3D.ai clearly outperforms Meshy.ai

Here is why:

  • Higher geometric fidelity - just look at the connector details: sharper, more accurate, less melted.
  • Better sharp edge preservation - cooling fins are a great example, it looks melty and soft in Meshy, while Tripo3D keeps them just flat.
  • Clearer feature separation - part boundaries are all more structurally distinct with Tripo3D.
